Privacy Policy

TinkySpeak AAC ("TinkySpeak", "we", "our") is built with privacy as a core principle. This policy explains what data TinkySpeak collects, how it is used, and your rights.

Summary

TinkySpeak does not collect, store, or share personal data. The app works entirely on-device. No account is required. No ads are shown. No analytics or tracking services are embedded.

Data That Stays on Your Device

All of the following data is stored locally on your device and never leaves it unless you explicitly choose to connect to a teacher dashboard:

• Communication boards — Custom boards you create are saved in local storage
• Speech recognition audio — Processed entirely on-device using Vosk (offline). Audio is never recorded, stored, or transmitted
• Voice recordings — If you use the voice cloning feature, audio samples are processed on our server to generate a voice model, then the recordings are deleted from the server within 24 hours
• Usage patterns — Tile tap counts and sentence history stay on-device for predictive suggestions
• Settings and preferences — Language, theme, and accessibility settings are stored locally

Optional Cloud Features

These features require internet and are entirely opt-in:

• Teacher Dashboard Sync — If a teacher or therapist registers your device with a serial number, the device will periodically check for new boards pushed from the dashboard. Only the device serial number is sent to our server. No personal information about the user is transmitted.
• Voice Pack Generation — Voice samples are uploaded to our server for processing. The generated voice model is downloaded to your device. Source recordings are deleted from the server within 24 hours.
• AI Board Generation — If you use the camera-to-board feature, images are processed by an AI service (OpenAI or Google Gemini) to generate board suggestions. Images are not stored after processing.
• Translation Model Downloads — ML Kit translation models are downloaded from Google's servers on first use. No user data is sent.
• Speech Recognition Model Downloads — Vosk language models are downloaded from AlphaCephei's servers on first use. No user data is sent.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• Names, email addresses, or contact information
• Location data
• Device identifiers (except the optional serial number for dashboard sync)
• Browsing history
• Advertising identifiers
• Photos or camera data (camera frames are processed in real-time and immediately discarded)
• Speech audio (processed on-device, never transmitted except for voluntary voice cloning)

Children's Privacy

TinkySpeak is designed for use by children, including children under 13. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar international regulations. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app functions fully without any personal data input.

Third-Party Services

TinkySpeak uses the following third-party services, only when explicitly triggered by the user:

• Google ML Kit (on-device) — Text recognition, translation, image labeling, barcode scanning, face detection. All processing happens on-device. Google's privacy policy applies to model downloads.
• Vosk / AlphaCephei (on-device) — Speech recognition. Fully offline after model download.
• OpenAI / Google Gemini (cloud, opt-in) — AI-powered board generation from camera images. Only triggered when user explicitly activates the camera feature.

Data Security

Local data is protected by Android's app sandboxing. Sensitive data (such as the Soul Drive feature) uses Android's EncryptedSharedPreferences with AES-256 encryption. All network communication with our servers uses HTTPS/TLS encryption.

Your Rights

Since TinkySpeak does not collect personal data, there is generally no personal data to access, correct, or delete. You can clear all local app data at any time through your device's Settings > Apps > TinkySpeak > Clear Data.

Changes to This Policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be communicated through the app.
